The Pink Jelly Fish
On a Sunday like this, Oh Abai normally got up early at 7 am. It takes 30 minutes for her to get ready , this time with a little make up on. She was determined to do something different this time. She thought heading an hour earlier to the resort would be a good spent of the morning. Last time, she saw a lady sitting at the bench by the beach, and enjoyed her breakfast. Oh Abai thought that was meaningful and wanted to do the same.
Without wasting her time, ready with two slices of apple crumble bought from the bakery last night, adding one of her dad's freshly made Angku Kuih, and another slice of walnut chocolate chip cake made by her brother into the cake box, she took off to the famous hotel where she usually attends church service.
She kept thinking how she could make her drive into the car park different as well. Feeling frustrated with the old parking place, she parked at the other side of the hotel. She thought taking a long walk behind that hotel to the other main hotel in the same resort, would be something new to her.
Indeed, along the 10 minutes walk by the coastal, she discovered a restaurant yatcht, cut through a long line of tourist waiting to board their hired speedboat for the islands across, past families talking about their plans for the day and watching staff getting onto their private boats. She came to a stop when she chose her favourite bench to rest her feet and enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean before her eyes.
She watched the far horizon nested with green islands, shining ripples and blue skies while spooning her desserts to fill in her famishing stomach as she breakfast at this place all to herself in solitude, peace and quietness. Only the birds greeted her a hello when they took small hop passing her looking for food. She almost wanted to feed them with pastry crumbles but stop the idea, that act probably be seen as littering.
totally obselete of the idea of time, she stole a quick read from the book which she was trying to finish for the last month. The story of Totto Chan brought her to another world and she wished could stay longer at that spot, knowing it is already time for her make a move for her church service. But, she got excited again thinking about the walk back to the car.
The sun was almost up in the sky, as though noon had arrived, her walk back was just as interesting as the beginning. This time, people were't not her subject of interest. She was mesmerized with the clear water in the dock, as fishes , ducks, seabirds and even jellyfish harbored by the platform. Just to end of the platform, she heard a Korean announcing a jellyfish in the water. She fixes her eyes on this particular pink jellyfish. Normally one would see a white one but this one was purple or pinkish. When it reaches the water surface, its tenticales were greenish.
It is unusual for her but she like the creature. She taught it almost resemble her outlook appearance. Often perceived looking young outwardly, but she is older than what people normally thought of her. She felt that relating to people is difficult because they couldn't seem to remember her even though she have attended the church for many times. She wondered why she could remember their face and yet her existence is not traceable. Just like the jelly fish, you will only know it is there until you look deeply into the water unless it has unusual feature like the pink one than the white.
How could dressing differently and putting make up on makes a person stand out that much? She didn't like the attention but she wants to look pretty this year, a way to love herself.
